FOCUS
Pete is a tax attorney and a Director in the Tax Advisory Services practice at Pease Bell, CPAs. He leads the Firm’s State and Local Tax (SALT) department and has over 20 years of experience in SALT consulting and credits and incentives (C&I). His SALT expertise includes income and franchise taxes, indirect and sales taxes, and property taxes – primarily focusing on return reviews, audit defense, voluntary disclosure agreements, nexus studies, taxability analysis, and strategic planning. Pete’s C&I expertise includes economic development incentives such as income and franchise tax credits, sales tax relief, cash grants, property tax abatements, and public-private financing. Pete’s industry experience includes construction, distribution and logistics, healthcare, manufacturing, professional services, retail and e-commerce, and technology. Pete’s proactive approach to both SALT and C&I emphasizes minimizing risk while maximizing opportunities to enhance cash flow.
EDUCATION
Pete earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Business Administration, both with honors, from Southern Methodist University. Pete earned his Juris Doctor, with honors, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Pete is an active member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Tax Advisory Committee. He also serves on the Ohio State Alumni Association Scholarship Committee and is a volunteer at Star House and the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
PERSONAL LIFE
Pete was born and raised in South Texas and now lives in the Columbus, Ohio area with his wife and children. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, fishing, and tennis. He also is an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Columbus Crew, SMU Mustangs, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
